Matti Waitinen, Ed.D., M.Ed., Master of Security, has worked in Helsinki as a class teacher and principal in a comprehensive school. In his role as principal in general education, he came to appreciate, in practice, the importance of systematic school safety work.
He then spent more than two decades as a pedagogical expert and principal at a professional school for rescue services. To further develop his expertise in safety, he completed the Safety Management program at the then Helsinki University of Technology as well as the Master of Security degree. In his doctoral dissertation, completed at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Helsinki in 2011, he examined the factors influencing an educational institution’s safety culture.
Matti has long been a popular lecturer and promoter of safety thinking in educational institutions at all levels across Finland.
