Excellence of the Finnish Education System (e-book)

The purpose of this publication is to present the main phases of Finland´s Education System Reform since early 1970´s until today. Finland has become known as a small Nordic country with one of the world's best education systems. Awareness is based in particular on the high-level PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) -results. The large and far-reaching reform in education has begun in Finland already in the 1970's including reforms of all levels of education. 

We hope that this book will spark the reader´s interest in education, especially in Finnish education system. In addition to a deeper understanding of Finnish education, the book also provides the foreign reader and foreign education organization with tools for development and utilizing the elements of education reforms. In many international business and other collaboration relations the excellence of Finnish education is often mentioned. We hope that this book can serve as a business card of Finnish education.

Pentti Rauhala Ph.D has wide experience in different fields of Finnish education beginning from the start of the comprehensive school in 1960’s and continuing in national and regional tasks in secondary vocational education in 1970’s and 1980’s. After that he was the President and Managing Director of Laurea University of Applied Sciences 15 years in Helsinki area. After retirement Dr. Rauhala has worked 11 years in the field of higher education research as an adjunct professor at University of Tampere and continuing this job.

Marja-Liisa Tenhunen Ph.D (Econ.) has held the position of President and Managing Director at Centria University of Applied Sciences in  Kokkola, Finland since 1995 until 2012 together 17  years. After the job of president, Dr. Tenhunen was appointds at Shanghai University as visiting professor and same at North China University of Technology in Beijing, China. In addition to this, Dr. Tenhunen has been teaching as visiting professor at Universidad CETYS Mexico, Baja California from 2011. Dr. Tenhunen was elected rector at Dimitrie Cantemir Christian University in  Bucharest, Romania since January 1^st, 2021.
